The travel-day problem
Getting around the Virgin Islands shouldn’t eat your first vacation day.
- First you find a taxi at the STT airport, then ride across the island to the ferry dock
- The public ferry runs on its own schedule. If your flight lands late, you’re waiting for the next one, or stuck overnight
- Wrangling every bag on and off a crowded ferry, then getting a taxi from the terminal to your villa or charter base
- Some islands take two ferries. Jost Van Dyke means a ride to West End, then a couple hours’ wait for the next boat to Great Harbor
- Heading to the BVI? Add a customs line with a ferry full of passengers ahead of you
There’s a better way
STT airport to any island, privately.
Your SeaHorse driver meets you at STT, helps with your bags, and brings you to our private boat in Red Hook. Grab a cold beer, water, or soda for one straight ride to St. John, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, or your charter base. No ferry schedule, no connections, no extra taxi to your boat.

Virgin Islands private water taxi FAQ
Questions about our private water taxi in the Virgin Islands
What is a Virgin Islands private water taxi?
It’s a boat that carries only your party between islands, on your schedule. SeaHorse Water Taxi meets you at the STT airport, a hotel, or the cruise port, drives you to our boat in Red Hook, St. Thomas, and takes you straight to St. John or the British Virgin Islands.
Where does your private water taxi go?
We run from St. Thomas to Cruz Bay on St. John and across the British Virgin Islands: Tortola (Road Town, Nanny Cay, West End, Hodges Creek), Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Scrub Island, Peter Island, Guana Island, and Saba Rock. We do not serve St. Croix or Puerto Rico.
Is a private water taxi better than the ferry?
It depends on your trip, but a private water taxi leaves when you land instead of on a fixed schedule, carries only your group, and drops you at your marina, charter base, or resort dock rather than a public ferry terminal. No connections, no terminal crowds, no extra taxi to your boat.
Can you pick us up at the St. Thomas (STT) airport?
Yes. Your driver meets you at STT, helps with your bags, and brings you to the boat. Share your flight details in the quote form and we track your landing so the timing works even if your flight runs late.
Do I need a passport for a Virgin Islands water taxi?
For any British Virgin Islands destination, yes: every traveler needs a valid passport and must clear BVI customs and immigration on arrival. We walk you through it. St. Thomas to St. John stays within the U.S. Virgin Islands, so there’s no customs stop on that ride.
How do I get to Jost Van Dyke without the ferry?
We take you straight to the customs dock at Great Harbor. By public ferry, you’d typically ride to West End on Tortola and then wait a couple of hours for a second ferry to Great Harbor.
How much is a private water taxi in the Virgin Islands?
Your price depends on your party size, pickup point, drop-off location, and whether you book one-way or round trip. Get a quote and a real person on our team will reply with your exact fare.
